An astronomer, and one of the Condon Committee's most careful investigators. William K. Hartmann worked through several of the famous photo and film cases for the University of Colorado study. On the Trent photographs from McMinnville, he worked from the original negatives. He judged the object consistent with an extraordinary flying disk. Later, Robert Sheaffer's shadow analysis changed his mind. On the Mariana film, Case 47, he ruled out balloons, birds and meteors, and he left the case unexplained. In 1968 he watched bird flocks near Tremonton. On the Rex Heflin photographs, Case 52, his verdict was inconclusive.
