A University of Arizona atmospheric physicist, James E. McDonald kept going back to old cases. In 1968 he interviewed both Chiles-Whitted pilots, by then jet captains, and they still described a vehicle. That same year he took the Levelland case to a House symposium. He told Congress that ten vehicles had been stopped within a short area in a 2-hour period. He also looked again at the Rex Heflin photographs from Santa Ana, checking the radio cutoff and the weather. He disputed the balloon verdict in the Gorman Dogfight as well.
