October 1966. The University of Colorado signed a contract to study UFOs, and the Condon Committee was born. It followed months of pressure after the Michigan sightings and the first open congressional hearing on UFOs. Its investigators took up old and new cases alike. William K. Hartmann examined the McMinnville photographs and found them consistent with an extraordinary flying object. Case 34, Shag Harbour, drew only a brief inquiry, while Gordon Thayer judged Lakenheath-Bentwaters the most puzzling case in the radar-visual files.
