In 2017 he and forum members matched the Chilean Navy infrared footage to Iberia flight IB6830, an Airbus A340 climbing out of Santiago. That same July, retired commodore Rubén Lianza proposed on the forum that the Aguadilla object was a pair of heart-shaped lanterns. West also argued the Nimitz Tic Tac video fit a distant plane. Other researchers weighed in too. Some disputed the IB6830 match, but Metabunk kept defending it through 2024.
