Washington, D.C.

Place 3 stories, 1944 to 1952

Washington, D.C. sits at the centre of the summer of 1952. That July, radar sightings over the capital became the focal point of an American flying saucer wave. Days earlier, on July 14, a Pan Am crew over Chesapeake Bay reported glowing discs, and Edward J. Ruppelt of Project Blue Book later placed the Hampton report in the build-up that led to Washington. The wave reached London too. On 28 July 1952, Churchill sent a minute asking what the flying saucer stories meant. A month after Washington came the Florida encounter of scoutmaster Sonny DesVergers.
