Kew is home to the files. The National Archives received the Ministry of Defence UFO records under a five-year open-government programme that began in May 2008. By its own count, that came to 209 files and approximately 52,000 pages. On 20 October 2008 it released the files holding Milton Torres's account of the 1957 intercept order at RAF Manston. Nick Pope's file on the Cosford Incident opened there on 17 August 2009, and the MoD's Rendlesham Forest file went there as DEFE 24/1948. Across the Atlantic, more than 1,500 pages on Japan Air Lines Flight 1628 turned up at the National Archives in September 2018.
