The planet Venus was the explanation sceptics offered again and again. January 6, 1969. In Leary, Georgia, Jimmy Carter saw something he would call the darndest thing he had ever seen. Robert Sheaffer and Allan Hendry said it was Venus, but Carter, an amateur astronomer, rejected that. After the Kaikōura Lights of 1978, an RNZAF wing commander suggested an unusual view of the planet. The pilots insisted they knew what Venus looked like. In 1991, Ron Johnson of MUFON Texas and Tim Printy tied the Mexico City eclipse object to Venus as well.
