Roger Patterson

Person 3 stories, 1955 to 1967

A former rodeo rider and amateur boxer from Yakima, Washington. Roger Patterson was hooked on Bigfoot after reading Ivan Sanderson's 1959 article in True, which told the story of Jerry Crew's Bluff Creek footprints. By 1967 he had self-published a book on the subject and was making a Bigfoot documentary. That year, riding with fellow Yakima ex-rodeo man Bob Gimlin, he shot the Patterson-Gimlin film at Bluff Creek. Darren Naish noted that Patterson had described and drawn William Roe's female creature in 1966. For sceptics, Roe's account may have served as the film's template.
