National Enquirer

Organisation 5 stories, 1971 to 1981

An American tabloid that kept turning up at the edges of famous cases. Sometimes it paid. Sometimes it published. In 1973 its Blue Ribbon Panel awarded the Johnsons of Delphos, Kansas $5,000 for their glowing ring, a prize that drew suspicion. It paid for a November 15 polygraph of Travis Walton that found gross deception. That result stayed hidden until June 1976. The same month, it ran Bob Pratt's account of the Elmwood incident. Its reporter Henry Gris also spread a wild version of Kovalyonok's Salyut 6 sighting, a story generally considered apocryphal.
