A Soviet launch site whose rockets turn up again and again in the debate over strange lights. March 12, 1981. Soyuz T-4 lifted off from Baikonur, carrying Vladimir Kovalyonok and Viktor Savinykh to Salyut 6. In 1982 James Oberg tied the Great Soviet Crescent sightings of 1967 to secret Kosmos launches from the base. Each crescent appeared about 95 minutes after one. Some link the Dyatlov Pass orange spheres to R-7 launches from Baikonur, and the viral 2010 Hangzhou UFO video was identified as one of its rocket launches.
