A Soviet astronomer and early ufologist. In 1947, while at the Moscow Planetarium, Felix Ziegel began promoting the theory that an alien ship exploded over Tunguska in 1908. He later argued the object blew up in the air after a curving manoeuvre of some 600 km. May 1967. He became deputy of the first official Soviet UFO study group under Major General Stolyarov. That November the two men went on central television to appeal for witnesses, and Ziegel summed up about 200 reports of a glowing orange crescent. A decade later he challenged the rocket explanation for the Petrozavodsk Phenomenon.
