A town in New Mexico whose name became shorthand for the whole field. Summer, 1947. Dan Wilmot and his wife watched a glowing disc from their porch at 105 South Penn, and days later Roswell Army Air Field announced it had gained possession of a disc. Brig. Gen. Roger M. Ramey called it a weather balloon. The town now hosts the International UFO Museum and Research Center and a yearly UFO Festival. Its name echoes elsewhere: Kecksburg is Pennsylvania's Roswell, Rendlesham Forest is Britain's, and the Trinity crash claim travels as Roswell before Roswell.
