Lakenheath

Place 5 stories, 1953 to 1967

Lakenheath was an RAF base in Suffolk used by the United States Air Force in the summer of 1956. It held nuclear weapons. On 27 July a B-47 crashed into a storage igloo there, and all four crew died. Then came the night of 13 August. Alerted by Bentwaters, ground personnel at Lakenheath watched several luminous objects, two of which appeared to merge and leave in formation. The Lakenheath and Bentwaters case became Condon Case 2. It is often set beside the RB-47 encounter of 1957, the Orly Airport sighting of 1956 and the Colorado Springs radar case.
