DI55 was a branch of the Defence Intelligence Staff at the Ministry of Defence. It kept UFO files of its own, apart from the MoD's main UFO desk. In 1967 a DI55 investigator interviewed the two constables in the Devon "Flying Cross" police chase. The verdict was blunt. Venus. Then 1996. Reviewing how it handled reports of unidentified aerial phenomena, DI55 turned to about 10,000 sighting reports already held by the MoD. The result was Project Condign, classified SECRET UK EYES ONLY and distributed on 4 December 2000. David Clarke later named its author as Ron Haddow, DI55's in-house UFO expert.
