Air Materiel Command

Air Materiel Command operated from Wright Field, which is now part of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. In the early flying disc years, many saucer reports ended up there. 23 September 1947. Its commander, Lt. Gen. Nathan F. Twining, signed a SECRET opinion stating that the phenomenon was real and not fictitious. The command reviewed the United Air Lines Flight 105 sighting and suggested that sunset illusions, aircraft or birds might explain it. It also received the negatives of the Rhodes photographs from Phoenix. In 1948 the Fürstenfeldbruck radar-visual report reached its Commanding General and was logged as Sign Incident 222.
