A Navy-led effort to examine unidentified aerial phenomena. It was approved in August 2020, after the Department of Defense released three Navy videos on April 27, 2020. The formal start came on August 14, 2020. The task force reviewed cases like the USS Russell "pyramids" and the USS Omaha "splashdown sphere" of 2019. A Pentagon spokesperson confirmed those incidents were part of its ongoing examinations. Reportedly, it could not determine what the sphere was or where it came from. Its work led into the ODNI preliminary assessment of June 2021. AARO followed.
