Richard Haines

Person 3 stories, 1978 to 2010

Richard Haines was a researcher whose technical analysis appears in several of the archive's cases. For the 1978 Valentich disappearance over Bass Strait, he examined the final 17 seconds of tape. He found the noise could have come from extremely rapid manual keying of the microphone switch. In the 1988 Knowles family Nullarbor encounter, he identified the black dust from the car as brake dust. In November 2012 he wrote a report for NARCAP on the 2010 El Bosque air show footage. He concluded that two cameras had recorded the same object. Bruce Maccabee came to a different conclusion.
