A Scottish loch with old stories of a fearsome monster, or water kelpie, told long before 1933. That year it found its monster. In spring, the Inverness Courier printed the Mackays' Strange Spectacle in Loch Ness. On 22 July, George Spicer reported an extraordinary animal crossing the road near the shore. Then came Hugh Gray at Foyers, with the first claimed photograph. April 1960. Tim Dinsdale filmed shapes in the water during a six-day watch alone, and the film helped spur the founding of the Loch Ness Phenomena Investigation Bureau in 1962.
