A naval officer and author, Rupert T. Gould wrote the first book about the Loch Ness Monster. Late 1933. He sat down with Aldie and John Mackay and heard about their strange sighting in the loch. He also interviewed the Spicer couple. They described a long neck bent into half-hoops and a greyish body like a huge snail. In 1934 he published The Loch Ness Monster and Others. It included the Mackay case and a drawing of the Spicer creature. It also reproduced Hugh Gray's 1933 photograph, the first offered as evidence of the monster, and noted that it had been retouched.
