John Keel was an author and investigator who appears across several cases in the archive. December 1966. He arrived in Point Pleasant and worked with reporter Mary Hyre on the Mothman sightings. His book The Mothman Prophecies came out in 1975, and a film starring Richard Gere followed in 2002. His wider investigation of West Virginia that year also touched the case of Woodrow Derenberger and Indrid Cold, which he linked to the Grinning Man and the Mothman legend. In the Olden Moore landing case of 1957, he noted that neither the sheriff nor the Air Force would corroborate Moore's Washington episode.
