Jim Lorenzen co-founded APRO, the Aerial Phenomena Research Organization, and worked its cases alongside Coral Lorenzen. Together they wrote up the 1954 Petare encounter in the APRO Bulletin. It was the first Venezuelan report they had received of occupants collecting samples. In 1957 he spoke with James W. Stokes the same evening as his encounter and saw the redness on his face, calling it possibly sunburn. Their 1977 book Abducted! told the Sandy Larson and Pat Roach stories. With Sgt. Charles L. Moody, Lorenzen himself raised the first doubts. He found contradictions in Moody's accounts.
