Giant Rock rises seven stories out of the Mojave Desert near Landers, California. In 1942 a prospector named Frank Critzer died there, setting off dynamite during a police siege. Later it became home to George Van Tassel's Giant Rock Spacecraft Conventions. Contactees gathered there. Truman Bethurum spoke often, Daniel Fry attended for about 20 years, and Howard Menger took the stage in May 1957. George Adamski came too. Edward J. Ruppelt, former head of Project Blue Book, attended in 1955. The crowds peaked in 1959. About 10,000 visitors.
