Organisation 8 stories, 1965 to 2023

America's space agency appears across the archive in two roles. Its cameras supply the footage, and its experts supply the explanations. In 1991 a camera on Space Shuttle Discovery sent pictures down live on NASA Select, and those pictures became the STS-48 zig-zag video. NASA's short answer was ice particles reacting to engine jets. In 1996 the STS-75 tether broke and drifted free, and the clip that followed came to be called proof of craft in orbit. After the Kecksburg incident, journalist Leslie Kean sued NASA for its records in 2003. A court-ordered search ended in 2009 with no smoking gun.
