The FAA is the American aviation authority whose controllers, tapes and records keep coming up in this archive's sightings. In the Japan Air Lines Flight 1628 case of 1986, early press reports credited it with radar confirmation. Then, on March 5, 1987, it called the Anchorage target a split image of the 747 and still left the sighting unexplained. At O'Hare in 2006, a United employee called the FAA tower, but no controller saw the disc, and the agency put it down to weather. In Kansas in 2022, it logged a sea of flashing lights as an Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon.
