Frederick William Birmingham was born in 1821 in Westport, County Mayo, Ireland. He came to Australia in 1852 and settled in Parramatta. There he worked as a civil engineer and surveyor, served as an alderman, and was engineer to the council on its water supply works. The night of 25 July 1868. On the veranda of his Duck's Lane cottage he saw floating heads, then an ark that came down gently onto the grass. In his notebook he also recorded a second sighting. On 9 March 1873 he watched three brown clouds and a turtle-shaped body with rotating screws.
