The archive uses Yeti for the snowman of the Himalaya, which Western climbers have reported for a century. In 1925, N. A. Tombazi saw a figure near the Zemu Glacier. All that remains is fifteen prints in the snow. In 1970, Don Whillans heard odd cries in the Annapurna Sanctuary, and his Sherpa calmly said a Yeti was coming. In 1986, Anthony Wooldridge photographed a figure near Hemkund that he later decided was a rock. Reinhold Messner came to see the creature as a brown bear. A 2017 study traced nine samples to bears.
