A Portuguese historian, and director of the civilian scientific group CNIFO. In the 1982 Ota Air Base case, General José Lemos Ferreira released the Air Force files to his group. CNIFO's team estimated the object's horizontal speed at about 2,500 km/h. Lemos Ferreira also told him about his own 1957 encounter with a formation of F-84G jets. With Fina d'Armada, Fernandes went back to the original documents on Fátima. In Heavenly Lights (2005), they argued the 1917 events were close encounters, not Marian apparitions. Eric Ouellet called that reading very biased.
