Civil Aviation Authority

Organisation 3 stories, 1991 to 2013

Britain's Civil Aviation Authority turns up in the archive whenever a pilot reports something that should not have been there. In 1991 it opened an airmiss inquiry after an Alitalia MD-80 near miss over Lydd, Kent. Nothing known had been in the area. The case went on to the Ministry of Defence. In 1995 the crew of British Airways Flight 5061 had their account and drawings sent to its Joint Airmiss Working Group. That inquiry took about a year. Later, in the 2013 Heathrow "Rugby Ball" case, the UK Airprox Board looked into the encounter and reported to the Authority.
