John Spencer

Person 3 stories, 1974 to 1985

An author whose books carried several cases from southern Africa and China to a wider readership. His World Atlas of UFOs gave the surname MacNorman to the couple whose drive through Rhodesia on the night of 30 to 31 May 1974 became the Umvuma car-pacing case. His UFOs: The Definitive Casebook retold the 1975 Loxton landing in the Karoo. The same book offered its own version of the 1985 CAAC Boeing 747 encounter. In Spencer's account the airliner was over Gansu Province, flying from Beijing to Paris. He singled out one detail: a UFO with an apparent diameter of 6 miles.
