H.R. 8424, the UAP Transparency Act, was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives on May 16, 2024, by Mr. Burchett with Mr. Moskowitz, Mrs. Luna and Mr. Burlison, and referred to the Committee on Oversight and Accountability. The bill would require the President, within 270 days of enactment, to direct every federal agency holding records on unidentified anomalous phenomena to declassify them and post them on a public website. It would also require quarterly progress reports to House and Senate committees.
2 •HR 8424 IH SEC. 2. PUBLIC AVAILABILITY OF CERTAIN INFORMATION1 RELATING TO UNIDENTIFIED ANOMALOUS2 PHENOMENA.3 (a) IN GENERAL.—Not later than 270 days after the4 date of the enactment of this Act, the President shall di-5 rect the head of each Federal department or agency in6 possession of documents, reports, or other records relating7 to unidentified anomalous phenomena to declassify and8 make available on a publicly available website of each such9 department or agency all such documents, reports, or10 other records.11 (b) REPORT.—Not later than 360 days after the date12 of the enactment of this Act and quarterly thereafter, the13 President shall transmit to the Committee on Oversight14 and Accountability of the House of Representatives and15 the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental16 Affairs of the Senate a report detailing the progress to-17 ward implementing subsection (a) made by each Federal18 department and agency.19 (c) DEFINITION.—In this section, the term ‘‘uniden-20 tified anomalous phenomena’’ has the meaning given such21 term in section 1683 of the National Defense Authoriza-22 tion Act for Fiscal Year 2022 (50 U.S.C. 3373).23 Æ VerDate Sep 11 2014 04:36 Jun 22, 2024 Jkt 049200 PO 00000 Frm 00002 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6301 E:\BILLS\H8424.IH H8424 kjohnson on DSK7ZCZBW3PROD with $$_JOB
