This Central Intelligence Agency release, dated 2012-06-01, contains an English translation of a 1948 Soviet article by S. P. Tolstov and M. A. Orlov on archaeological aerial surveys in Khwarazm, Uzbekistan, during 1945 and 1946. It describes flight altitudes, lighting and camera methods for photographing ruins. The authors report flights of more than 9,000 kilometers that doubled the number of known monuments, located medieval cities and irrigation networks, and produced an archaeological map. It contains no UFO material.

(d) Along the eastern shore of the Aral Sea Morodishchos of the Nassagetae, Alani, Ephtalite Huns Oguz Turks. (o) Dzhend, an important center of early medieval culture. Exploration of southwestern Usturt revealed a system of forts and light towers forming the northeastern defense line of medieval Khwarazm as well as trade routes and strategic ways from Khwarazm to Eastern Europe 1.0. the lower and middle Volga. A study of these monuments enabled us once again to reconsider the problem of the Khwarazmian-Kazakh-Bulgarian-Russian relations and to establish that they were close not only commercially but politically. Exploration carried out in the Kara-Kum desert revealed monuments, which made possible the solution of the problem, much debated between Soviet geographers and historians, of the Uzboy-Bary-Kanysh question and the truth was found to be on the side of the geographers.
