add to Personal History - VFO- One night in about July or August of 1964 I saw a VPU . I was on alert at Edervale AFB in California and was the senior ranking officer on duty. At about 0200 hours I got a call from the session Controller from the SAGE center in San Bernardino . He said they had reports of VEO's and had had some traffic contacts. He ask if I could send one of our F-106A's airborne . Our alert aircraft were armed with nuclear weapons and were only authorized to fly by order and proper authenticity with top Secret authentictors. He declined to go that far
