: 4 February 1959 - Over Pennsylvania : this sighting first came to the attention of the ATIC through a UPI press release . the American Airlines office at Dornbusa, Michigan to determine if a report was made to the airlines officials . Captain , the observer , had not made a report . The airlines official contacted he would obtain a report from captain and forward it to the ATIC . A United Airlines pilot , Captain was also reported to have seen the objects . A call was put through to the United Airlines office at Ahron-Canton Airport , Ohio . The following is a summary of the information given to the United Airlines office by Captain : " when observed 50 miles East of Youngtown, Ohio, 3 lights in almost a straight line formation were observed . As observer watched, the middle light appeared to vary in its distance to the others . The lights had a slight variation in intensity . As observer got past Youngtown the lights disappeared and disappeared . As observer was approximately halfway between Youngtown and Cleveland, the lights moved off and disappeared . They were observed for approximately 20 minutes.
