This 217-page Project Blue Book desk file on the 24 April 1964 Socorro, New Mexico sighting by policeman Lonnie Zamora comes from the Rob Mercer collection. It contains the Blue Book record card, which carries the case as unidentified pending more data, along with Foreign Technology Division messages and resumes and a narrative of the sighting. It also holds inquiries about lunar modules, helicopters and VTOL craft, soil and radiation findings, and a letter by J. Allen Hynek rejecting Donald Menzel's hoax hypothesis.

I have talked to Hajor Casper ,.Jho was the Cloud Gap Field Operations Officer at Albuquerque, based at Kirtland AFB , during the time this incident took place. Cloud ~ ap operations were conducted in an area about a hundred miles north of Socorro, New Mexico . Cloud Gap personnel did no.t have any equipment nor special clothing which could possibly be related to the description provided by police officer Lonnie Zamora. Since certain aerial surveillance flight s wer e being conducted by Navy aircraft, RA 5C 1s, in the area in question, a check on such flights revealed none were f lown on 24 April 1964 in connection with Cloud ,1ap. We have no information on this sighting other than that provided by your SGT HOODY ~.;ho was a participant on our project and that picked up from the newspapers.
