This 81-page Project Blue Book case file covers the Levelland, Texas sightings of the night of 2 to 3 November 1957. It holds the record card, Air Force teletype reports from the 1006th AISS and radar units, witness questionnaires, press clippings about the White Sands sightings, and analyst memos. Several witnesses said a bluish-white oval object stopped their car engines. The Air Force concluded the cause was ball lightning in stormy weather, with wet or faulty ignition systems explaining the engine failures.

This organization wishes to express its appreciation to the 006th Air Intelligence Service Squadron for the fine support rendered in conjunction with investigations of unidentified aerial phenomena. 2. The summer of 1947 marked the beginning of active United States Air Force interest in the so-called "Flying Saucer" business. Since that time literally thousands of reports have been received, investigated, evaluated and documented. This mammoth task would never have been accomplished without the whole-hearted and energetic support of your organization. 3. It is always extremely difficult to isolate those individuals who have contributed most towards the success of any supporting program. Such is the case here. We do recall, however, that S/36t Norman P. Barth, of your organization, has been in intimately close contact with our people regarding field investigations, and personally did an extremely fine job for us during the recent "Levelland, Texas" incident. See Inclosure No. 1. 4.
