This Federal Aviation Administration record, from a 2023 FAA release on unidentified aerial phenomena, gives preliminary FAA operations information about an event on December 23, 2023. According to Kansas City ARTCC, United 1605, an A320 flying from LAX to BWI at FL350 about 80 miles west of Springfield, Illinois, reported lights off its left side at 5:35 a.m. CST. The lights moved erratically in random directions at an unknown altitude. ATC radar did not detect the phenomenon.
