This Federal Aviation Administration Skywatch incident report, a closed record from the Department of Transportation, logs a sighting on October 28, 2023, reported through Cleveland facility ZOB. United Airlines flight UAL541, a Boeing 737-800 going from Denver to Boston, was eastbound at FL390 about 40 nautical miles west of Buffalo. The crew saw an unidentified aerial phenomenon off the left side: one light that split into two lights. The two lights flew in a crisscross pattern at about FL500 to FL600.
