This is a Federal Aviation Administration Skywatch incident report, released in 2023, about an unidentified aerial phenomenon on January 26, 2023. Washington Center logged the report from general aviation flight N926FM, an E135 flying to Charlotte. While descending from FL360 to FL340, 10 miles northeast of LYH, the crew saw a projectile climb straight up through FL360 with a smoke trail. They described it as a shiny missile traveling vertically about 10 to 30 miles south of LYH. The report is closed.
