This is a Federal Aviation Administration Skywatch incident report, released in 2023, about an unidentified aerial phenomenon reported at 01:52 on April 22, 2022. The crew of LXJ359, an E55P flying from Boston to Huntsville, reported a string of bright lights at FL550 near the ESL VORTAC. The sighting lasted 4 to 5 minutes. While directly beneath the lights, the aircraft suffered double failures of its attitude reference and autopilot systems. Crews of three other flights reported seeing the same phenomenon.

The unknown phenomenon was described as a string of bright lights at FL550. The event lasted for 4-5 minutes. LXJ359 experienced a double Attitude Reference System failure and a double Autopilot System failure while directly underneath of the UFO lights. The UFO's lights turned off and the flight crew could still observe that there was something there. The flight crews of SWA368 (DCA-MDW), SWA393 (BWI-MDW), UAL46 (IAH-EDDF) reported sighting the same light phenomenon and held a discussion about what they saw on GUARD frequency. AWO notified.
