This Federal Bureau of Investigation file release gathers memos, teletypes and letters from 1949 and 1950 on flying saucer reports. Most of it covers a March 1950 claim by a Knoxville radio technician that his surplus APN-7 radar detected an object over Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Navy radar never confirmed the object, and Air Force examiners judged his equipment unreliable. Other items include a cardboard saucer hoax near Elmira, New York, a pilot's 1949 formation sighting in Oregon and a Denver claim of a crashed disc.

It was all of plain clear for the object was in the eastern sky the sun just came from behind a cloud in the west at about sun down shown upon it. I run to my door to try to distinguish a plane motor or a sound of motor or a possible crash maybe a few blocks away. But I heard nothing so I again explained my to the 7th B.D. Lee. I could not judge the distance of the object now my own radio has not been working for a 2 weeks, so that I did not recently caught all the news. My friend of mine tells me that according to radio news, the saucers are again appearing, and are now disintegrating. Now Mr. Hoover if this matter that I shall men here is by chance out of your jurisdiction, then I pray you either mail this to some one (the right one) or put it the hands (directly) to some responsible Gov. Official whom are sure will give the matter serious study and consider when the two tornadoes hit Woodward Ohio three years ago within a few days or a few weeks of each other. I that time on I have theorized that these "Flying Saucers" a being sent from a Russian base located somewhere on the eastern edge of Siberia, Korea or Mongolia, but more likely come place in Siberia, and are radar controlled. The first ones of about the year of the tornadoes come back to base there, and that they served a tri-purpose. No. 1. That the first ones contained instruments photograph simultaneously record distance altitude temperature. Thus with data returning via the "Saucers" the Russians may by this means have every first of our U.S. Q. photographs and our critical areas spotted. No doubt the "Saucers" are built round and like this view from the side would have only one edge and spin like a top thrill the air with plots around the saucer where I have plenty of dots.
