This Federal Bureau of Investigation file release gathers memos, teletypes and letters from 1949 and 1950 on flying saucer reports. Most of it covers a March 1950 claim by a Knoxville radio technician that his surplus APN-7 radar detected an object over Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Navy radar never confirmed the object, and Air Force examiners judged his equipment unreliable. Other items include a cardboard saucer hoax near Elmira, New York, a pilot's 1949 formation sighting in Oregon and a Denver claim of a crashed disc.

For a number of intermittent nights at about the same time, I would leave a terrible very quick noise on the four unit apartment Bldg. at 44 East 17th St. where I had a small roomed apartment on the top floor. The noise one lasted a second or less, and always traveled north to south. It at great speed this missed or whatever over land that I could never get to the window to look into the night sky. I reported it to the F.D.9: fire (local F.D.9.) checked all the airports. no one of any craft having been there at that time. I clocked it after it 4 or 5 times, and as near as I can remember now it was at 11:21 P.M. then the time I again reported to the F.D.9. I had before found it was not street nor building noise. The second time I called the F.D.9, the party at the other end, said wait a moment; soon he said, a lot of the force had been telling him hearing the same thing a few blocks south of me at the 21st bridge while out there on patrol duty! Then a few weeks after those mores over land came first word of people, seeing "flying saucers" Since living here at late last a flying saucer must have been what I saw that night, very round while cloud against a grey stormy sky, and even cast sky. It also rapidly drifted north to south, and while I wondered I looked at the (cloud?) sphere I saw it disintegrate a something that looked like envelopes or paper fell toward it.
