This FBI file gathers correspondence about Project Blue Book. In a January 1977 letter, the Department of the Air Force sent the FBI a UFO Fact Sheet. It says Blue Book ended on December 17, 1969, and found no evidence that UFOs posed a threat, used technology beyond known science or were extraterrestrial, and it lists 12,618 sightings, 701 of them unidentified. The file also contains 1989 letters from the civilian group calling itself 'the new Project Blue Book' to Director William Sessions, plus his reply that UFO investigation was never FBI responsibility.

I -Lr. Sessions, I will not take more of your time in this matter, but,
if you are interested, I would appreciate your looking into the matter.
You may wish to appoint one of our office; personnel to start making
inquiry aboutUFO 's,in general,and seewhich Agenciesto whichyou
would be directed. Keep in mind, however, that some present office
personnel, in the other agencies, may not know whatyou would be
inquiring about -and will tell you that theAir Force Project Blue
Book closed it's "doors"in 1969, and thatthe Air Force no longer
investigqtes UFOSightini reports-this I alreadyknow. Theimportankey is to go beyond the ir Force and into the otheragencies; such as
theOffice of Defense, C.I.A., etc. President Bush, when asked about
UFO's, toldthe gersonaskirg "Youdo notknow thehalf ofit". As ymknow, President ush was formerly with the C.I.A@ His comments are on
tape, by theway..
Well, I thinkthis should suffice for this time. I appreciate your
patience in reading this letter, and should you desire any additional
infonnation, please do not hesitate to let meknow. I would like, ver;
much, to work through you, and with you, to endeavor to bring thematte
of UFO'sto a conclusion -if that conclusion is an honest one.
