This FBI file gathers correspondence about Project Blue Book. In a January 1977 letter, the Department of the Air Force sent the FBI a UFO Fact Sheet. It says Blue Book ended on December 17, 1969, and found no evidence that UFOs posed a threat, used technology beyond known science or were extraterrestrial, and it lists 12,618 sightings, 701 of them unidentified. The file also contains 1989 letters from the civilian group calling itself 'the new Project Blue Book' to Director William Sessions, plus his reply that UFO investigation was never FBI responsibility.
' .' 1. Mr. Williamsea ns-F.B.I.- 2_ ,. while Chairman of the Senate Committee on Science, Senator Barry Goldwater asked for information and was told that he was not on a "need to know" basis. This request, of Goldwater, had to do with an initial announcement from the Air Force that a"saucer" had crashed and that alien bodies were at thn point in time! located in ahanger, or other building, at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, at Dayton, Ohio. Senator Goldwater was refused any information in this matter, along wit not beingallowed to personally look inside of the alleged building. Before taking office as President, JimmyCarter announced to the public that, if elected, he would give the American people the Government's information about UFO's. Thisdid not happen, and Mr. Carter was given a complete run-around and I could tell you more about this, because I was contacted by the Pentagon on the matter. The new Project Blue Book has 1&8 present, and/or former, Air Force, NC NASA, and intelligence gathering agency personnel, among others, acting as adviser-consultants to PBB -anonymously. These are persons who, fo the most part, have/had been actively engaged inearlier UFO reports fo their respective agencies, and who are stillmuchly interested. So, with this brief back-ground of information about me and about Gover ment participatiaz, the "challenge" I have mentioned would be to have you make inquiries at the highest levels of "officialdom" about what ou Government really knows, whether or not thereARE alienbodies located ANYWHERE, what happened to thecrashed "flying saucers", where are the photo's takenby Air Force personnel through on board gun cameras, and similar questioning. I am positive you would find that even you would be getting ageneral run-aroun and could not receive satisfactory answ to the above. I think you will/would find that you arenot receiving all the information you should be receiving and which should be very evident to you after making several inquiries. You may tend to drop th matter, thinking you are receiving answers to your questions, but this will not b_e the case, Ia ssure you.
