This FBI file on animal mutilations brings together newspaper clippings, correspondence and New Mexico livestock and State Police reports from the 1970s. The clippings report cattle mutilations near Dulce, Cuba and Taos, including an orange light seen near Taos that left a powder with potassium and magnesium, the same elements found on marked cattle hides. Senator Harrison Schmitt's letter to rancher Manuel Gomez forwards State Police Chief Martin Vigil's 1978 reports and notes that Officer Gabe Valdez had found no positive leads.

This four year old cross Herford and Black Angus native cow was found lying on left side with rectum, sex organs, tergus, and ears removed. Pinkish blood from one vileable, and after two days the blood still had not coagulated. Left front of left year low were bulled out of their sockets apparently from the weight of the which indicates that it was lifted and drowned back to the ground. The ground and under the cow was soft and showed indentations where the cow's head been dropped 600 yards away from the cow were the 4' circular indentations similar to the ones found at the Samuel Gomes ranch on 4-23-73. This cow had been dead approximately hours and was too decomposed to extract samples. This is the first in a series of installations in which the cow loses its brain. Partially the animals had been 75 feet from the brisket with a strut. These mitated animals all deviate roughly (one or two days). Investigation continues. 46. GUMINAL DAMAGE AMOUNT $400.00 47.
