Live Oak Rd Suite 1203 Castaic, CA 91384 Dear Mr. Greenwald: Re: FOIA Request No: 2021-002114 (SW) This is in response to your request dated February 24, 2021 under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). You requested all records pertaining to the February 21, 2021 encounter between American Airlines Flight 2292 and an unknown object over New Mexico. We searched our files maintained in the American Airlines Certificate Management Office (CMO). Enclosed are the documents responsive to your request. There is no fee associated with this request because processing was less than $20.00. We have identified additional records responsive to your request, however those records are are the property of the Department of Defense (DOD). The DOD will determine whether any of those records maybe released. You may direct your question to the DOD Air Force Representative; Attn: Mr. Jeffrey M. Godzik, 9-csa-afrep@faa.gov or 817-222-5911. We redacted personal information from the file, i.e., addresses, telephone numbers, social security numbers, etc., pursuant to Exemption 6 of the FOIA [5 U.S.C. 552(b)(6)]. Exemption 6 covers personnel, medical, and similar records. This exemption protects the privacy interests of individuals by allowing an agency to withhold from disclosure intimate personal data kept in government files. Disclosure of the redacted information would constitute a clearly unwarranted invasion of personal privacy. As the Air Carrier Safety Assurance Deputy Director, I am responsible for the determination that certain information in the records that you requested are exempt from disclosure. You may request reconsideration of this determination by writing the Assistant Administrator for Finance and Management (AFN-140), Federal Aviation Administration, 800 Independence Avenue, SW, Washington, DC 20591 or through electronic mail at: FOIA-Appeals@faa.gov.
