This Defense Intelligence Agency release gathers Army and Air Force intelligence reports on unidentified flying objects from several countries. It contains translated Finnish Border Guard reports of glowing spheres and lights seen near the Soviet border, a Costa Rica sighting near Puntarenas, and Afghan news items from 1959 on bright objects over Kandahar, Mazar-i-Sharif and Kabul. Other reports describe objects over Kuldja in Sinkiang, China. A 1969 OSI report from Nakhon Phanom, Thailand concludes that a pilot's ground sighting was probably a religious procession carrying ceremonial drums.

R-485-39 SUMMARY (U) The English language news bulletin "DAKHTAN" during November 39 published the two following items: a. " 9 Nov 59; Dateline, KANDANAR (3135N 6545E): "On 8 November a huge laminous object was seen moving at great speed over the sky in Kandahar. The object which was flying in a North Westerly direction had a downward movement and soon after it was soon it blow up with a loud roar on SNURAB mountains, causing slight earth tremors in the area. No losses have been reported so far." b. 29 Nov 59: Dateline, MAZAR-1-SHARIF. (3642N 6706E): "A bright object was observed in Mazar-1-Sharif moving with high speed from North-East towards South-West. The object disappeared in three minutes in the clouds." (U) CONTENT: a. USAJIA has been unable to secure further information about either of these sightings. b. Afghanistan, with prim determination, has decided to advance from the 13th to the 20th century as quickly as possible. If more advanced countries have sighted UTO - Voll - So has Afghanistan.
