This Defense Intelligence Agency info memo, dated 30 October 2009, reviews the first-year technical reports delivered under the Advanced Aerospace Weapon System Applications contract with Bigelow Aerospace Advanced Space Studies (BAASS). It lists 26 reports delivered in FY 2009, on topics including antigravity, warp drives and invisibility cloaking, and quotes excerpts from independent and Sandia National Laboratories reviews, all of them positive. It adds that Congress will apparently fund option year one at $12 million.

(b)(6) Metamaterials for Aerospace Applications: Energy Harvesting, Sub- Wavelength Imaging, Optical-Device Miniaturization, and Non-Reciprocal Optical Devices Metamaterials are "materials beyond materials" wirh unusual elecrmmagneric or optical properties. The report by-~(b)(6) !describes several possibilities how such materials can be used.for advanced aerospace applications. As examples, he qften uses his mvn experiments. l(b)(6) Iis one qf the research leaders in the.field qfmetamaterials and has built up a hiJ?hly credible reputation in this area. Although the research area ofmetamaterials is still rather ne\v and mostly cm~fined to proofofprinciple academic research at present, it will undouhtedly revolutionize phoronics and lead to commercial applicarions thar are interesting for the aerospace industry. (b)(6) Biosensors and BioMEMS: A Survey of the Present Field l(b)(6) I This paper reaches toward and achieves a laudable goal: making BioMEMS understandable and relevant.
