This CIA release contains two 1952 internal memos on flying saucers. The 1 August 1952 memo from the Weapons and Equipment Division reports that most of the 1000 to 2000 reports ATIC received were phoney, explained as U.S. equipment, or natural phenomena. Fewer than 100 credible reports stayed unexplained. It recommends that CIA surveillance continue quietly, with no sign of CIA interest reaching the public. A 29 July memo says a special study group had been formed after recent radar and visual sightings.
