This Central Intelligence Agency record contains the minutes of a Deputies' Meeting held on Wednesday, 14 January 1953, with Messrs. Dulles, Wisner, Wolf, Becker, Hedden and Earman present. Dulles noted a Log item about a conference on unidentified flying objects and said he wanted to meet briefly with the people attending it. The other items covered the Office of Training paper, reserve officers doing active duty with CIA, Soviet comments on a Washington Post editorial, and a Summary Evaluation paper for the NSC.
Mr. Wisner: a. Noted Soviet comments, as intercepted by FBIS, on the editorial in the WASHINGTON POST of 9 January, pertaining to CIA activities. Since these comments will not be contained in the regular FBIS publication, Mr. Dulles asked DD/I to send them along to Phil Graham. concurred in this project. Mr. Dulles .state his mater couao-e-turui considered after comments had been received from Murphy and Overesch. c. Reported that the reply to the Soviets in regard to their request to .interview was entir y agreeable to CIA. Mr. _ecker: b. Reported that he hacadvised Walter Rostow.that his (Rostow's) publisher could expect no answer from either the Director or Deputy Director regarding their endorsements of Rostow s new book. c. Reported that agreement )ad'been reached on the Summary Evaluation paper and it was now ready to go forward to the NSC and asked D/DCI if it could be sent along immediately to Mr hay. D/DCI stated he would prefer to hold this paper until the Director had an opportunity to see it in its final form.
