This Central Intelligence Agency personality (201) dossier on Sandelio Herminio Diaz Garcia holds material dated from November 1956 to August 1975 and was approved for release in 2025. It contains 1966 intelligence cables on a 29 May 1966 exile infiltration attempt near Havana, in which Diaz was reported killed while trying to assassinate Fidel Castro. It also includes a report on cancelled assassination plans, 1973 traces linking a Herminio Diaz to narcotics trafficking, and FBI file listings. The dossier contains no UFO material.

A prominent Cuban emigre in Miami who is a friend of Diaz, and with whom Diaz discussed his plan, said that although Diaz and Ameijeiras were friends, he was not aware of Ameijeiras' involvement in Diaz' assassi nation plan. Field Comment. The arrest of Ameijeiras, vice-minister of the Cuban Armed Forces, was reported in the press on 17 March. TDCSDB-315/00765-66, from the same source, reported that on 4 March Diaz said that he and members of his group planned to leave Miami for Cuba momentarily. At that time Diaz' associates in Miami doubted that he would attempt to carry out the assassination plan. There has been no previous indication that Ameijeiras, or anyone in Cuba, was involved in Diaz' plan.
